Jaime Chavez

A 40 –year law enforcement veteran, Jaime retired in 2012 as the Police Chief of New Mexico State University. During his tenure, he served 7 years as the Police Chief, nine years as the Uniform Division Commander. He attended the FBI National Academy and the Southwest Command College.
Jaime has an extensive background in law enforcement use of force and has been certified as an instructor or instructor trainer in numerous firearms, defensive tactics, less lethal/chemical agents, and arrest tactics.
Jaime has made presentations at National at law enforcement conferences and has been qualified as an expert in NM District Courts in the areas of firearms safety and use, police use of firearms, and as a use of force expert. He provides consultation in these matters, writes opinions, and testifies in court.
Jaime has trained police officers domestically and abroad having provided training in the use of force, firearms, less lethal, and best practices in Honduras, Panama, and Mexico.
Jaime currently serves the State of NM as a Fugitive Investigator for the Department of Corrections responsible for the apprehension of wanted dangerous felons. Additionally, he serves as a Use of Force Trainer and Firearms instructor for the Fugitive Unit.
Jaime owns and operates Innovative Defense Strategies, a company dedicated to the delivery of cutting-edge training in the areas of firearms, defensive tactics, use of force, risk assessment, and expert witness services.
